Job Purpose
Reporting to: Lead Assessor / Quality Manager
Contract Type: Full-time
The Trainee Assessor will support the assessment of learners undertaking UK assignment-based, Ofqual-regulated qualifications. Under the supervision of a qualified assessor, the trainee will develop the skills, knowledge, and competence required to assess learner evidence in line with awarding body standards, assessment criteria, and internal quality assurance (IQA) requirements.
Job Responsibilities
Learner Assessment Support
- Support the assessment of written assignments, portfolios, reflective accounts, and evidence uploads.
- Review learner work against unit learning outcomes and assessment criteria.
- Provide constructive, clear, and developmental feedback to learners, in line with center policies.
- Identify gaps in evidence and guide learners on how to meet the required standards.
Assessment Administration
- Maintain accurate assessment records on the learning platform or internal systems.
- Ensure assessment decisions are valid, reliable, sufficient, authentic, and current (VRSAC).
- Support timely assessment and feedback in line with centre SLAs.
- Assist in tracking learner progress and completion status.
Quality and Compliance
- Work under guidance to follow awarding body, Ofqual, and centre assessment requirements.
- Participate in standardisation activities and assessor meetings.
- Prepare assessment evidence for internal and external quality assurance (IQA/EQA) sampling.
- Follow policies on plagiarism, AI, malpractice, data protection, equality, and safeguarding.
Professional Development
- Work towards achieving a recognised assessor qualification (e.g. Level 3 CAVA), if not already held.
- Act on feedback from Lead Assessors and IQAs to improve assessment practice.
- Keep up to date with qualification specifications and assessment guidance.

Person Specification
Essential
- Occupational competence or relevant qualification in the subject area being assessed (or working towards).
- Good written communication skills, with the ability to provide clear and learner-friendly feedback.
- Basic understanding of assignment-based vocational qualifications.
- Good IT skills (MS Word, email, online learning platforms).
- Ability to manage time effectively and meet deadlines.
- Commitment to equality, diversity, safeguarding, and learner support.
Desirable
- Working towards or willing to undertake an assessor qualification (CAVA) along with the Level 3 Award in Health and Social Care 3.
- Must read and gain knowledge from the learning resources for the Level 3 Diploma in Adult Care,
- Experience supporting learners in education, training, or workplace settings.
- Familiarity with Ofqual-regulated qualifications.
- Experience with online or distance-learning assessment systems.
Training and Support
- Full induction and ongoing support from a Lead Assessor/IQA.
- Standardisation and assessor development sessions.
- Opportunities to progress to a qualified Assessor role upon successful completion of training and competence sign-off.
